This deluxe ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ Stamp Presentation Folio Set features a wide selection of brilliantly-presented key moments and leading characters from Peter Jackson’s awards-winning ‘The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring ’ movie, while exploring and paying proper tribute to John Ronald Reuel Tolkien’s Middle Earth in a form that film enthusiasts, stamp lovers, and literary fans will appreciate.

Partially open cover of Presentation SetA HANDSOME COMPILATION of popular 2001 Official Fellowship of the Ring stamps, this deluxe tri-fold Presentation Pack includes several scarce ones which are no longer available separately. EXCLUSIVELY DESIGNED BY Sacha Lees at Weta Workshop - the same team nominated for three Academy Awards and winner of two prestigious BAFTA Awards - these 2001 Fellowship of the Ring Presentation Packs represent a superb and unique opportunity to commemorate their monumental cinematic achievement. Unaware of how successful Peter Jackson’s movies would be, New Zealand Post printed a much smaller number of ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ stamps relative to the larger print runs for the later movies. A second Presentation Pack was issued in December 2002 for the ‘The Two Towers’ and a third Presentation Pack was released in November 2003 to commemorate ‘The Return of the King’; both are now OOP.

Miniature Sheets: Fellowship of the Ring

actual size: 2 1/2 H x 4 1/2 W inches; 65 x 115 mm

40 cent stamp design: Gandalf tells Saruman that the centuries long lost One Ring is found

Strolling in the garden of Isengard, the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Sir Ian McKellen) informs Saruman the White (Christopher Lee), that the long lost Ruling Ring of the Dark Lord has resurfaced, unaware that Saruman also means to obtain it. Abroad, the dark forces of Sauron, in the sinister black-cloaked shape of the Ringwraiths, search for the One Ring that rules all others.
80 cent stamp design: Galadriel had the wisdom to refuse the One Ring when freely offered by Frodo

The Lady of the Golden Wood, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett), founded and became Queen of Lorien during the War of the Ring. Offered the One Ring by Frodo, the Elf Queen refused aware of its power to corrupt even her.
90 cent stamp design: Frodo and friends enjoy some refreshment at the Inn of the Prancing Pony, Bree

Frodo Baggins - The Ringbearer (Elijah Woods), accompanied by his good friends Samwise ‘Sam’ Gamgee (Sean Astin) and Pippin ‘Peregrin’ Took (Billy Boyd) enjoy an ale in the Inn of the Prancing Pony, while nervously awaiting the arrival of Gandalf. All pandemonium breaks out when Frodo 'vanishes' in front of the local yokels.
1.30 dollar stamp design: Unaware of having been on the brink of death, Frodo awakens in Rivendell

After having been almost killed in the mines of Moria by a Morgul knife whilst escaping the pursuing Ringwraiths, Frodo regains consciousness in Rivendell, unaware of having been on the brink of death. Gandalf tells him The Fellowship are now safe under the protection of the Elves, and that the Council of Elrond and several old friends including his uncle Bilbo (Ian Holm) await.
1.50 dollar stamp design: Strider eavesdrops on the hobbits from the shadows - is this Ranger friend or foe?

The mysterious stranger, Strider (Viggo Mortensen) watches Frodo and company from the shadows in the Inn of the Prancing Pony, Bree. One of the secretive band of Rangers who roam the wild lands, he is later revealed to be Aragorn, son of Arathorn, Chieftain of Arnor, and rightful Heir of Gondor.
2.00 dollar stamp design: Boromir calls The Fellowship to arms with the ancient Horn of Gondor

Boromir (Sean Bean) of Gondor, son of Denethor II, blows the ancient Horn of his people to warn of a raiding party of savage Uruk-Hai. Boromir fell at Amon Hen valiantly defending Pippin and Merry, shortly after Frodo left The Fellowship to strike out for Mordor on his own. Boromir’s earlier misgivings about destroying The Ring undoubtedly foretold his untimely end.

Miniature Sheets: Regular perforated stamps set in an attached illustrated panel showing the origin of the stamp, each of which are derived from key scenes in ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ motion picture.

First Day Covers: Pictorial envelopes which are issued and stamped with a specifically-designed cancellation postmark that is only used for that day and issue. The cancellation stamp for this Fellowship of the Ring First Day Cover is a stylized Eye of Sauron encircled by the words ‘The Fellowship of the Ring, First Day of Issue, 4 December 2001, Stamps Centre Wanganui New Zealand’. First Day Covers are very collectable since they are hard to obtain after issuance. This Fellowship of the Ring stamps issue was only released in New Zealand in a limited print run of approx. 10,000 and sold out quickly.

Additional Info: Loose gummed and self-adhesive stamps are unhinged mint (UHM), and First Day Covers (FDC) are unaddressed. Technical details are available. A subsequent ‘The Two Towers’ Presentation Pack was issued in December 2002 and a third ‘The Return of the King’ Presentation Pack was released in November 2003 to commemorate the Middle-earth movie trilogy.
